Terrorists Kill 50 Christians and Abduct 100, including Priest
Nigeria (Morning Star News) – Fulani herdsmen on Thursday (March 24) killed an estimated 50 Christians and abducted a Catholic priest in attacks on communities in an area of Kaduna state, Nigeria, area sources said.
In late-night attacks on 10 predominantly Christian communities of Giwa County, herdsmen and others also took about 100 people captive and burned down a church building, area residents said.
“They also burned houses, stores and killed animals,” resident Nuhu Musa told Morning Star News by text message. “These attacks continued and lasted up to the morning of Friday, 25 March. They didn’t allow even the dead bodies to be buried, as they shot at mourners and those who returned to the villages to conduct funerals for those killed.”
Women and children were among those killed, Musa said. The burned church building was located in Zangon Tama village, and the assailants also raided the villages of Unguwar Kaya Fatika, Barebari, Dillalai, Unguwar Bakko, Gidan Alhajin Kadi, Kadanya and Durumi, he said.
“Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna state is bleeding,” Musa said.
Samuel Aruwan, commissioner in Kaduna state’s Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, said initial reports showed the assailants had attacked the villages of Dillalai, Barebari, Dokan Alhaji Ya’u, Durumi, Kaya and Fatika.
The Catholic priest, the Rev. Felix Fidson Zakari of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, was taken away at gunpoint from Zangon Tama village along with others, four area residents said. The residents and a spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Zaria requested prayer for the abducted priest.
Among other villagers, Julius Agbado, a member of the Catholic church, said, “Please kindly pray for the safe release of Rev. Fr. Felix Fidson Zakari, a priest of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Zangon Tama, under the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, who was kidnapped after armed herdsmen and terrorists attacked Zangon Tama.”
Another area resident, Muazu Gogi, lamented the government’s failure to protect villagers against such attacks, which have become commonplace in Kaduna state.
“Pray for us to survive these attacks by herdsmen and bandits,” Gogi said. “These herdsmen and bandits attacked several villages in Giwa Local Government Area and killed more than 50 persons. The government is aware about the killings and destructions by these Fulani terrorists and armed bandits but is unable to protect the people.”
Killings in Benue State
In Benue state, Fulani herdsmen early Wednesday (March 23) killed three Christians, following the slaughter of more than 20 people in predominantly Christian areas of the state earlier in the month, sources said.
Residents of predominantly Christian Yoli village, in Katsina-Ala County, said the Fulani attacked at about 2 a.m. and also wounded a dozen people, forcing many to flee their homes.
“The Fulani, who had guns and weapons like machetes, attacked Christians in one of our villages, Yoyo community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area,” Comfort Angula told Morning Star News in a text message. “They killed three members of the community, and many were forced to flee the village.”
Nicholas Kahiorga said the three Christians slain were members of the Universal Reformed Christian Church (NKST in Nigeria) in the village.
Alfred Atera, local council official of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, confirmed the killing of the three Christians in a statement on Thursday (March 24).
The killings follow similar herdsmen attacks this month in Benue state. In Guma County, herdsmen on March 10-12 attacked Ahentse village, killing five Christians on March 12, local residents said.
On March 10 in Iye village, herdsmen killed eight Christians, and on the same day in Udeyen village, six more were killed, area residents said. Prior to the attacks, residents said they received threatening letters from the herdsmen demanding that they leave the villages or be killed. The armed herdsmen who subsequently attacked rode motorcycles, they added.
Caleb Aba, Guma council chairman, cited a lower figure, saying eight Christians were killed in attacks on Iye and Udeyen.
“The attacks of Thursday, 10 March, were carried out late at night while the villagers were sleeping,” Aba said. “In both attacks, eight Christians were killed by the herdsmen.”
He identified some of the slain as Clement Tortiv, Enoch Utim, Terkimbi Kutaer, Mtaaega Tyogbea and Aondoaver Swende, and the wounded as Sunday Gaga and Torkwase Igbira.
Paul Hemba, a Benue state government spokesman, said six Christians were killed in Iye two were slain in Udeyen.
Benue Gov. Samuel Ortom said on March 14 that herdsmen killed more than 20 people the first two weeks of the month.
“In the last two weeks, more than 20 people have been killed by Fulani terrorists in unprovoked attacks in Guma, Logo and Gwer West, Agatu,” he said. “This has led to the growing number of IDPs [Interntally Displaced People] in Benue. As I speak, more than 1.5 million people are still living in poor shanties as shelter. They have nowhere to go to.”
A community leader said in Gwer West County on March 15 said that since 2011 herdsmen have killed 390 people in the area and wounded 37. Daniel Abomste said the attacks took place in the districts of Sengey, Mbachohon, Gbaange/Tongov, Tyoughatee and Saghev/Ukusu.
“Christians in these areas have been displaced by the herdsmen attacks and forced to flee their homes,” Abomste said.
Numbering in the millions across Nigeria and the Sahel, predominantly Muslim Fulani comprise hundreds of clans of many different lineages who do not hold extremist views, but some Fulani do adhere to radical Islamist ideology, the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom or Belief (APPG) noted in a recent report.
“They adopt a comparable strategy to Boko Haram and ISWAP [Islamic State West Africa Province] and demonstrate a clear intent to target Christians and potent symbols of Christian identity,” the APPG report states.
Christian leaders in Nigeria have said they believe herdsmen attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt are inspired by their desire to forcefully take over Christians’ lands and impose Islam as desertification has made it difficult for them to sustain their herds.
Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith last year (Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021) at 4,650, up from 3,530 the previous year, according to Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List report. The number of kidnapped Christians was also highest in Nigeria, at more than 2,500, up from 990 the previous year, according to the WWL report.
Nigeria trailed only China in the number of churches attacked, with 470 cases, according to the report.
In the 2022 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria jumped to seventh place, its highest ranking ever, from No. 9 the previous year.

- Pray that the Lord will frustrate and trouble the commanding Russian leaders with lost instructions and confusing as well as contradictory orders.
- Pray that the Ukrainian military will continue to receive advanced intelligence on Russian plans and movements.
- Pray that all men and women who are staying behind have adequate food and first aid supplies.
- Pray to the Lord to comfort the families who were torn apart by the war from their husbands not knowing how they are doing and will they come through this alive.
- Pray, lift up the churches of Eastern Europa who are challenged by supporting incoming refugees.

- Pray Russia decides to stop fighting and go home.
Chinese replacement parts won’t work on Navy ships that bring tanks for missiles, will sink or go home. Russian troops are further from the capital than last week.

For leaders to realize they must deal with the consequences of destruction.

Global Distress: Let us Pray for the Persecuted

- Pray workers will not be discouraged.
- Pray for a spirit of praise.

- Pray for the health of those working in the Kingdom of God.
Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd I shall lack nothing.”
- Pray for abundant provision for those being persecuted and for the workers.
Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake”
- Pray Christians would be upright and blameless; let unbelievers see the Lord’s goodness through them and be saved.
Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
- Pray they will not have a spirit of fear.
- Pray they will be comforted by God’s Word and co-laborers.
Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
- Pray the eyes of enemies of the Lord and His work would be blinded; hide Christians in Your secret place from those seeking to destroy them and their work.
- Pray the oil of anointing would be upon them to do mighty exploits; gifts of the Spirit would operate.
1 Timothy 1:10 “For adulterers and the perverted, for slave traders—translated as ‘menstealers’ in the King James Bible, liars, perjurers – and whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine”
- Pray for protection against kidnapping, especially young women and girls, but also children.
Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the bride say ‘come!’, and let him who hears say ‘come!’. Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”
- Pray for salvation for those persecuting; pray for a spirit of repentance.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone — for kings and those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
- Pray for the leaders of Nations.
- Pray for more intercessors; pray for more anointing for intercessors.

- We come against the spirit of complaining against our leaders instead of praying for them. The media exacerbates this.

- Pray to the Lord that He will break the impasse as neither side can win. To give the Ukrainian president and negotiating team favor in working out a favorable settlement.

- Pray to the Lord that Putin’s threats of nuclear military action are just posturing and that clearer heads will prevail
- Pray for much needed supply of food and medication to reach their destinations.
Libya
Population: 6.7 million, Christian about 34,600
When a person in Libya leaves Islam to follow Christ, they face immense pressure from their families to renounce their faith. Their neighbors and the rest of the community ostracizes them, and they can be left homeless, jobless and alone. If a Libyan Christian shares his or her faith with someone else, they will likely be reported, arrested and perhaps face violent punishment. The country has no central government, so laws are not enforced uniformly, leaving Christians in danger of overt and public persecution. Targeted kidnappings and executions are always a possibility for believers. To be a “safe” Christian in Libya is to live a secret life of faith.
- Pray for the believers who must keep their faith secret.
- Pray for Libya’s government who is unstable, ruled by various power groups, to move to stability.
- Pray to the Lord that His hand is on His believers and protection from kidnapping and executions.
- Pray that the Lord will touch and turn the hearts of the militants.
- Pray that believers may find other Christians for fellowship.
- Pray that the Lord will reach many Muslims through dreams and visions.
- Pray for the protection of Christian migrant workers.
- Pray for Christian broadcasts to reach into Libya and for great internet coverage that will reach the lost and minister to believers.

Join the Conference Call to Pray For Israel
(Voice of the Persecuted) We invite you to join us on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in a prayer conference call for Israel and the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.
While most attention has been on the Russian war in Ukraine, which is reasonable. We also know that the killing, kidnapping, burning of villages and subsequent refugees in Africa has not stopped. We have finished celebrating Purim, when the Almighty stepped in already knowing what He would do to preserve Israel and destroy those who tried to destroy the Jewish people. Dear Prayer Warriors, I feel an urgency to pray for Israel.
We thank you, Adonai, that You are always at work, often behind the scenes, to preserve Your people, both the Israelites and those who have been grafted in.
Psalm 83:4-5 “Come, they say, let us destroy them from being a Nation that the name of Israel be remembered no more. With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against You …“
- Pray for Israel’s protection, as Iran and its proxies have Israel physically surrounded.
- Pray for the security forces; grant them discernment; show them how to stop every terrorist plot.
The P5+1 is still negotiating on a nuclear deal.
Exodus 23:32 “Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.“
- Pray this nuclear deal will not stand.
Proverbs 29:25 “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord will be kept safe.”
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
- Pray that those in leadership would not fear man or be manipulated by fear; would not stop Israel from possessing its land.
- Pray that government leaders, and all Israelites would trust in the Lord and ask for wisdom and understanding that they may have what they need.
- Pray for wisdom regarding the Russia/Ukraine conflict so they will not feel bullied into making bad decisions.
- Pray would raise up godly advisors for all the government leaders (Proverbs 11:14)
Passover and Ramadan overlap next month, which historically has brought increased terrorism and unrest.
Isaiah 57:19-21 “… Peace, peace to those far and near, says the Lord, and I will heal them. But the wicked are like the tossing sea which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.“
- Pray for a spirit of calm in all the believers to help change the atmosphere; pray against the spirit of violence.
- Pray for believers to pray for their enemies and be able to love them in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jeremiah 33:12 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In this place, desolate without men or animals — in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.“
An article from the Jerusalem Post this month showed photos of IDF soldiers clashing with the Bedouins while protesting forestation of the desert. They are against planting trees!
There is a problem with lack of governance in the Negev.
PM Bennett said that we are dealing with chronic problems that are constantly being put off. Regavim, a public movement dedicated to the protection of Israel’s national lands and resources, warned “if we continue on the trajectory we are in right now, we will lose the Negev.” The Negev is more than 60% of Israel’s landmass.
- Pray Israel’s government would plant the trees it has planned according to God’s Word.
- Pray Israel would step up and be able to govern this area.
Thomas Nides, the US Ambassador to Israel, said that settlement growth infuriates him. He strongly pressured Israel to not build in the E1 corridor NE of Jerusalem. This is because the USA does not want to hinder the “two state solution” creating “Palestine”, and anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist Islamic State on Israel’s God promised land.
- Pray forIsrael will not face pressure into a move that would curse both Israel and the United States.
- Pray the United States would repent of its ungodly desires.
Jeremiah 31:8 “See, I will bring them from the land of the North and gather them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng will return.”
Thankfully Pnina Tamano-Shata, Israel’s Aliyah and Integration Minister, formerly known as the Ministry of Immigration, is working to remove many bureaucratic barriers.
- Pray to bring the Jewish people safely out of Ukraine and Russia and other countries into Israel.
- Let this influx of refugees allow more Messianic Jews to enter Israel; to remove bureaucratic barriers that make it harder to immigrate.
- May there be resources for this great influx of people: new housing, including in new areas, jobs, language classes, and other needs, to go forth to possess the Land.
Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.“
- Pray that all this shaking would cause more Jews (and others) to seek You.
- May they find salvation during this Passover season; open their eyes that they may connect the Passover lamb with the Lamb of God and the blood.
- Pray for an increase of divine encounters; pray for discipling of new believers; pray new believers would not face pressure by family or rabbis to turn away.

May the Lord continue to bless Nadia and the prayer team in the mission and their personal lives.
“Pray for us” is the number one request that we hear from the persecuted. As the members of the first century Church were moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, we too must continue to serve those suffering persecution by lifting them up to the Lord through prayer.
On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters have been invited on the conference call to share the trials they are facing. The team serves to encourage them by washing their feet in Spirit led prayer. Time is often reserved for those on the call to ask questions. We believe this helps to gain a better understanding of the situation that persecuted Christians endure in their specific nations. Q&A also helps us to focus our prayers based on their current needs.
Persecution Watch also hosts callers who want to pray united from other nations. If your heart is perplexed by the sufferings of our persecuted brothers and sisters, you no longer need to pray alone.
We welcome all who desire to pray for the persecuted church and consider it a joy to pray together with you. If you are new to the call and cannot find your voice, listen in and pray silently or on mute. We are grateful and thank the Lord for bringing us all together to pray in agreement for our persecuted family in Christ. We can all be prayer warriors on this call!
