Praying Against Antisemitism and Global Strife

The world situation, including Israel, and antisemitism has been foremost on my mind. There is so much to pray for that it is hard to begin.
Holocaust Remembrance Day was Thursday of this week. In Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Boca Raton flyers in plastic bags with a rock were thrown into driveways saying, “Every aspect of the covid agenda is Jewish”, giving the names of government officials, scientists, CEOs who are Jewish. Antisemitism has dramatically increased in the world. In France, it has increased 75% over 2020, with a 37% increase in violent attacks.
There were dozens of attacks during the 11 days when Israel and Hamas were exchanging fire. Soccer fans in Belgium do Nazi salutes and chant about killing Jews. Such chants occur regularly in Europe and in the Netherlands, and it is spreading to other venues like graduation parties.
The book “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, very antisemitic, are being sold very successfully by all the major book sellers.
Barnes and Noble argues that “IF this book is genuine, it might cause some of us to take a wary view on world affairs”, strongly implying that this book may in fact be true.
A Tennessee school board voted unanimously to remove the Pulitzer Prize winning novel “Maus” about his father’s Holocaust experience. Parents said it might find the book “anxiety provoking” because it shows people hanging and the killing of children.
The United Nations is notoriously anti-Israel. The UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) decided to fund a new “commission of inquiry” to solely investigate Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. Every year the UNGA routinely passes series of blatant anti-Israel resolutions: 17 in 2021. This month it called upon Israel to withdraw from “occupied Syrian Golan” and give it to the Assad regime.
The Biden administration told Israel, Greece, and Cyprus it will no longer support a natural gas pipeline from Israel to Europe in order not to get Russia and Turkey upset.
Israel and Lebanon are in a dispute regarding maritime borders, including oil drilling rights.
The children in most of the Arab world, and very strongly in Gaza, Syria and other places are taught that the Jews are responsible for their suffering and that they stole the land they are on.
Everyday rocks capable of killing people are throw by the Arabs in Gaza and also in other parts of Israel. Last year according to reports, there were 1,775 attacks. People were killed, including a 4-year-old girl.
Israel is determined to stop Iran from having nuclear weapons whether the West makes an agreement or not. Iran is determined to have them. Israeli fighter jets and refueling planes held massive drill over the Mediterranean aimed at Tehran. Iran is testing ballistic missles that can carry nuclear bombs to most of Europe.
Yet UK, France, Germany, USA continue to negotiate with Iran in Vienna.
China, Russia, and Iran held maritime joint exercises in the Indian Ocean. January 1st was their third one. Iranian’s leader Ebrahim Raisi presented Moscow with draft documents on strategic ties that would cement a joint collaboration for the next 20 years.
Houthi attacks from Yemen on the UAE did substantial damage, using a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones. Many missiles and drones were intercepted, but many were not.
Israel is considering her position on the Ukraine / Russia crisis. Since 2014 Israel has maintained neutrality due to Russia’s significant military presence in Syria as well as Israel’s strong ties with Ukraine in a variety of areas. Israel volunteered to mediate, but Putin refused.
- Pray for the church and others to rise up and combat these lies, whether on flyers, in books; pray these flyers will not find good ground.
- Pray books about the Holocaust be allowed in the schools.
- Pray that the church in Europe would rise up with the Jewish community against the spread of antisemitism.
- Pray protection for the Jewish people in France, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands– all of Europe.
- Pray antisemitism would lead to more people fulfilling God’s agenda of bringing the Jewish people back to the land of Israel.
- Pray the US would stand with Israel; the US abstained in a UN vote on an important issue recently; pray US would change its stance on the natural gas pipeline to Europe. Pray for wisdom for the leaders of all these governments.
- Pray against the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) movement pushed by the UN and many Nations.
- Pray for a fair and Godly resolution with Israel and Lebanon.
- Pray that Israel would know how to deal with the rock throwing.
- Pray for wisdom for Israel’s leaders; have fear of God; seek Godly counsel; not rely on their own strength.
- Pray Israel would know what or what not to do regarding Iran.
- Pray confusion among Israel’s enemies.
- Pray protection for Israel and her true allies; for gathering of all necessary intelligence.
Again, we want to lift up these persecuted witnesses to the Lord:
- Leah Sharibu, prisoner of Boko Haram since 2018. Pray for her release.
- Alice Loksha Ngaddah, kidnapped February 2019. She is a mother of two, working as a nurse for UNICEF. Pray for her release.
- Pray for Pastor Wang Yi to be released from prison.
- Pray for Anita, a Christian convert facing a long prison term who escaped from Iran and praying to go to a country where she can express her faith openly.
- For the release of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani from Iran, and his family as their Persecution continues. Pastor Nadarkhani is serving the second year of his six-year sentence.

Tonight, we will pray for Ukraine, the safety of Christians, the people, and for the leaders.
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s leaders sought to reassure the nation that a feared invasion from neighboring Russia was not imminent, even as they acknowledged the threat is real and prepared to accept a shipment of American military equipment Tuesday to shore up their defenses.
Russia has denied it is planning an assault, but it has [amassed] an estimated 100,000 troops near Ukraine in recent weeks, leading the United States and its NATO allies to rush to prepare for a possible war.
Tonight, we will pray for Ukraine, the safety of Christians, the people and for the leaders.
- Pray for protection from invasion.

Persecution Watch: Praying for Believers in Uzbekistan
(Voice of the Persecuted) You are invited to join us on Saturday January 22, 2022 in a prayer conference call for the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.
The Lord has put it on my heart for us to pray together for Uzbekistan.
Out of a population of approximately 33.6 million, 350,000 are Christians. Islam is the predominant religion in Uzbekistan. The level of persecution Christians face is high.
What does persecution look like in Uzbekistan?
Though all Christians experience some level of persecution in Uzbekistan, Protestants are often the victims of the greatest pressure. Christians who are a part of these non-registered churches may be viewed as “extremists,” and the government believes church members are spies trying to destroy the government. Therefore, Christians and their churches may be monitored, and unregistered churches may be the victims of police raids, arrests and fines. Additionally, Uzbekistan is largely Muslim, so any Christian who converted from Islam faces increased pressure from their family and community. Christians in these situations may be locked up, beaten or expelled from their communities. Many converts from Islam are forced to hide their faith.
What has changed this year?
This year, persecution continued to be significant against Christians in Uzbekistan. A new criminal code was drafted in 2021, which continues to penalize the distribution of religious literature, meeting for worship without government permission and “talking about faith.” The previous laws about religious activity were often criticized for being vague, but this update gives way to even greater persecution. Protestant churches continue to be targeted by authorities, and Christians who converted from Islam are still persecuted by both government and community.
Who is most vulnerable to persecution?
The level of persecution by government officials in Uzbekistan is the same all over the country, particularly on Christians who don’t belong to a registered church, as well as Christians suspected of evangelizing. For Christians who converted from Islam, the pressure is strongest outside of urban areas, especially in the Fergana Valley in the east.
Pray for Uzbekistan
- Pray for Christians who are discriminated against in work or society because of their faith. Pray for Christians who lose their jobs, or who are required to keep their faith a secret. Pray especially for Christians who convert from Islam in Uzbekistan, that they would be protected and know the peace of God.
- Pray for the government of Uzbekistan, that they would allow more religious freedoms. Ask God to bring the knowledge of Him to the leaders of the country.
- Pray for the truth – and realize Christians are not trying to destroy the Government.
- Pray that Bible and other Christian literature be available through smuggling of printed word, internet, broadcast and any other creative means.

- Pray for Christians to be under the “radar” of those spying out their freedom and be able to continue to meet.
- Pray for protection of the churches, especially those non-registered.
- Pray for fellowship among believers, especially converts from Islam.
- Pray for boldness among believers to share their faith when prompted by the Holy Spirit.
- Pray for provision for believers; pray those serving short prison sentences would not lose their jobs because of this.
- Pray for those imprisoned by their families or the Government.
- Pray for maturing of the body of Messiah in Uzbekistan, discipleship programs.
- Pray for the youth, especially those with Christian families, as all Christian youth activities are forbidden.
- Pray that believers would be able to forgive and even love their enemies through the Holy Spirit.
- Pray for increased faith and strength.

Prior to the passing of Brother Blaine, he confirmed the passing of the torch as prayer conference call leader to Nadia Dybvik. Nadia has a burdened heart for the persecuted and is a prayer warrior standing in the gap for them. She joined the Persecution Watch prayer team in 2013 and has been part of the core ever since. Before becoming the prayer call leader, she served in the role of prayer moderator since 2015. Blaine chose Nadia for her faithfulness to pray for the persecuted and her strong commitment to the Persecution Watch mission. We are blessed not only with her gift of prayer, but her genuine love for every brother and sister in Christ that comes on the call to pray. May the Lord continue to bless Nadia and the prayer team in the mission and their personal lives.
“Pray for us” is the number one request that we hear from the persecuted. As the members of the first century Church were moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, we too must continue to serve those suffering persecution by lifting them up to the Lord through prayer.
On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters have been invited on the conference call to share the trials they are facing. The team serves to encourage them by washing their feet in Spirit led prayer. Time is often reserved for those on the call to ask questions. We believe this helps to gain a better understanding of the situation that persecuted Christians endure in their specific nations. Q&A also helps us to focus our prayers based on their current needs.

Sothern Kurdistan: Iraqi Kurdistan refers to the Kurdish-populated part of northern Iraq. It is considered one of the four parts of “Kurdistan” in Western Asia, which also includes parts of southeastern Turkey, northern Syria, and northwestern Iran.

Eastern Kurdistan or Iranian Kurdistan is an unofficial name for the parts of northwestern Iran with either a majority or sizable population of Kurds. Kurds have suffered a long history of discrimination in Iran. In a report released in 2008, Amnesty International said that Kurds have been a particular target of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Kurds’ “social, political and cultural rights have been repressed, as have their economic aspirations

The region has a long history of conflicts. These continued throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century. In Iraq the establishment of a Kurdish autonomous region in 1974 led to some level of self-governance, which increased after the Persian Gulf War and after its autonomy was recognized in Iraq’s 2005 constitution. In the 2010s a weakened Iraqi state and the Syrian Civil War left those countries unable to stave off the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL; also called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria [ISIS]) in areas around Kurdistan
Kurdish fighters became a leading force in the fight against ISIL in both countries, and, in so doing, Kurdish forces brought an unprecedented amount of territory and strategic assets under their control while winning significant international sympathy.
Such a level of autonomy and international support renewed hopes for independence, but those hopes were short-lived. A referendum for independence held in Iraq’s Kurdish autonomous region in 2017 passed overwhelmingly, but Iraqi forces immediately launched an offensive to take back some of the Kurds’ most important territorial gains. In October 2019, as U.S. forces stood down from supporting Kurds in northeastern Syria, Turkey launched an offensive into the region to subdue Kurdish forces there.

- Pray for leaders on both sides to refrain from violence and seek peaceful solutions the problems they face.
- Pray for the displaced Kurds to have shelter, food and warm cloth.
- Pray to the Lord to protect Kurdish Christians from radical Muslims.
- Pray to the Lord that He will protect Iranian Christians from persecution and discrimination.
- Pray that NGOs bring much needed physical and spiritual comfort.
- Pray for protection of Christians in the border areas to become victims of military actions.
- Pray for Elizabeth and her upcoming mission trip to the Near East.

Praying for the Release of Leah Sharibu
(Voice of the Persecuted) You are invited to join us on Tuesday January 18, 2021 in a prayer conference call for the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.
Nigerian Christian, Leah Sharibu was kidnapped at the age of 14 along with 109 other students on February 19, 2018 when Boko Haram attacked a boarding school in the city of Dapchi, Maiduguri Diocese, in north-eastern Nigeria. A month later, some of the girls died in captivity and all the others were released, except Leah. She was the only Christian in the group and the Boko Haram militants demanded she convert to Islam or become their slave for life.
Dear prayer Warriors, again we have heard news about plans underway to secure Leah’s release.

Praying for those who persecute Christians
(Voice of the Persecuted) You are invited to join us on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in a prayer conference call for the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.
Dear Prayer Warriors, Jesus encourages believers to love for our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Many would refuse, to others it seems next to impossible.
Matthew 5:43-48
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may prove yourselves to be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors, do they not do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Even the Gentiles, do they not do the same? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Tonight, we will pray for extremist groups like ISIS, Boko Harm in Nigeria, Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula, Taliban in Pakistan, and Al-shabaab in Somalia to name a few. Pray for them to realize who they really are fighting for.
- Pray they turn to God, to Jesus Christ His son to be saved from a future they will have no way to escape in the arms of Satan.
- Pray for the people living in Gaza, Christian and some Muslims alike, as they live day to day without much hope of survival at the hands of Hamas. ISIS has also penetrated the country, trying to take control. Pray for the love and strength of Christians to change the Muslim hearts.
- Pray for Syrian and Iraqi refugees scattered throughout the region because of ISIS gaining more and more control of the Middle East.
- Pray for the Islamists and Orthodox Jews to come to know who Jesus Christ really is and commit themselves to Him.
- Pray for ISIS, a group of Sunni Muslims, as they push their brutal way into the Middle East, killing Shiite Muslims as well as Christians and other religious minorities. Pray they are stopped, that Jesus would open their hearts and minds to the truth of who they really serve.
- Pray for the USA and other countries to come together to help stop the advance of ISIS in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere in the world.
- Pray for Christians in Eritrea that are suffering severe persecution at the hands of the government.
- Pray for Christians in Morocco in the mist of increasing persecution from the government and the Muslim community.
- Pray for Egypt as the people revolt against the government’s handling of their lives and country. Pray for an awakening of Jesus Christ and His love for all of them.
- Pray for Mohammed Hegazy to return to faith in Jesus. He has back tracked to Islam after a long and difficult imprisonment because of his conversion from Islam to Christianity. He has been released from the Egyptian prison system which he has been in and out of since 2007.
- Pray for Christians throughout the world to hold fast to their faith and be a light to those who are caught up in the misguided allegiance to a life that strengthens only the darkness.
We will continue lift these persecuted witnesses to the Lord:

Persecution Watch is a U.S. national prayer conference call ministry that prays specifically for the global Persecuted Church. For over a decade, Blaine Scogin led this national network of believers who faithfully pray for the persecuted and the global harvest for the Kingdom of God. The group meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday night at 9pm Eastern time in the United States (please check your time zone). Blaine also served as Prayer Director for Voice of the Persecuted, and the missions became one. Brother Blaine passed into glory on December 26, 2019. It was truly a blessing for all of us to serve alongside this dear man of God and he will be greatly missed. The prayer mission of Persecution Watch remains an important part of our mission. Voice of the Persecuted is committed to continue the prayer conference call for the persecuted along with the dedicated Persecution Watch prayer warrior team.
Prior to the passing of Brother Blaine, he confirmed the passing of the torch as prayer conference call leader to Nadia Dybvik. Nadia has a burdened heart for the persecuted and is a prayer warrior standing in the gap for them. She joined the Persecution Watch prayer team in 2013 and has been part of the core ever since. Before becoming the prayer call leader, she served in the role of prayer moderator since 2015. Blaine chose Nadia for her faithfulness to pray for the persecuted and her strong commitment to the Persecution Watch mission. We are blessed not only with her gift of prayer, but her genuine love for every brother and sister in Christ that comes on the call to pray. May the Lord continue to bless Nadia and the prayer team in the mission and their personal lives.
“Pray for us” is the number one request that we hear from the persecuted. As the members of the first century Church were moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, we too must continue to serve those suffering persecution by lifting them up to the Lord through prayer.
On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters have been invited on the conference call to share the trials they are facing. The team serves to encourage them by washing their feet in Spirit led prayer. Time is often reserved for those on the call to ask questions. We believe this helps to gain a better understanding of the situation that persecuted Christians endure in their specific nations. Q&A also helps us to focus our prayers based on their current needs.
Persecution Watch also hosts callers who want to pray united from other nations. If your heart is perplexed by the sufferings of our persecuted brothers and sisters, you no longer need to pray alone.
We welcome all who desire to pray for the persecuted church and consider it a joy to pray together with you. If you are new to the call and cannot find your voice, listen in and pray silently or on mute. We are grateful and thank the Lord for bringing us all together to pray in agreement for our persecuted family in Christ. We can all be prayer warriors on this call!
