Ministries host open prayer conference call for Andrew Brunson

(Voice of the Persecuted) For years, relations between the U.S. and Turkey have been deteriorating and, among other issues, critically affected by the detention of an American pastor, Andrew Brunson. Andrew has lived in Turkey for 23 years and is a pastor for the Izmir Diriliş (Resurrection) Church, a small evangelical Presbyterian congregation in the city of Izmir. He’s been unjustly detained since October 7, 2016 on charges of espionage and links to terror organizations which he firmly denies. Many believe Brunson is nothing but a political pawn in Turkey’s quest to force the U.S. to extradite Fethullah Gülen, who is considered an enemy of the Turkish government and living in self-exile in Pennsylvania for years.

During the first 18 months before his first trial hearing Andrew lost 50 lbs. and suffered extreme depression. Pastor Brunson’s first court trial hearing was on April 16, 2018, the second hearing took place on May 7; a third hearing on July 18. His fourth hearing is scheduled for October 12, 2018. The 50 year old pastor is facing a 35-year prison sentence if convicted by the Turkish court.

Through U.S. pressure, many hoped that Andrew would be released at the previous hearing on 18 July, but the judge ordered Andrew stay in detention. Reports claim that following an international outcry, the court ruled on July 25 that Andrew could be released from prison and be kept under house arrest due to health concerns.

Pastor Andrew Brunson released from Turkish prison and put under house arrest

On October 2, Ismail Cem Halavurt, Andrew’s lawyer, took Andrew’s case to the Constitutional Court hoping the claims against Andrew will be rejected and Andrew released from house arrest.

Turkish Christians and friends of Andrew Brunson are requesting prayer for the upcoming hearing.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, our brother is now entering his third year in prison in Turkey for his faith in Jesus. Please let us…….
.
••• Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 2 Tmothy 2:8-9•••
.
•••  Remember his imprisonment. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my imprisonment. Grace be with you. Colossians 4:18 •••
.
••• Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated, as though you yourself were suffering bodily. •••
Hebrews 13:3
.
Brothers and sisters let us unite in prayer and remember Andrew Brunson as his trial comes up this coming Friday October 12th. We invite you to join us during a special prayer conference call this coming Thursday, October 11th for our brother who is bound for the gospel of Jesus. Let us pray for the gospel to go forth in Turkey and the surrounding nations and as a result of Andrew’s imprisonment. We will also remember the persecuted church in Turkey and around the world in our prayers. We believe prayers are heard and answered. Stay on the call 7 minutes, 7 hours, or as long as you feel led. Your prayers make a huge difference in the lives of our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. Lord willing, I look forward to praying with you on the 7 hour call.

Details for the call are below. Please, join us and let us remember all those who are in the shadow of the cross.

Your brother in Christ,

Blaine Scogin

Christians praying for Muslims to come to Christ

(Voice of the Persecuted) A few years ago, I saw a picture of folded hands in prayer with a caption below that read, …by the power of God; through weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, 2 Corithians 6:7

I thought the artist vividly captured the message of 2nd Corinthians 6:7. For surely prayer is our most powerful weapon wielded with the word in advancing kingdom purposes of Christ.  James reminds us,

…The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect, James 5:6

It is said that the two things which endures for eternity are the word of God and the souls of men.

Tomorrow, Muslims, worldwide, will be celebrating Ramadan. It’s observed as a month of fasting from dawn until sunset to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief. This annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are considered mandatory for Muslim believers and the foundation of Muslim life. This year, Ramadan will begin on May 15th and continue to June 14th. For 31 days Muslims will be seeking a spiritual experience with the god of Islam. What they don’t realize is whom they are seeking is the true and living God found in the Bible.

During this time, many thousands of Christians, Jesus followers, around the world will be crying out for their salvation. For Muslims to have an encounter with the true and living Christ. Indeed testimonies verify that Muslims do find Christ in the midst of Ramadan and become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, the true Messiah.  John 3:16-18

Praying for 1.8 billion Muslims to experience the love of Christ

SIMPLE PLAN TO PROFOUNDLY IMPACT THE MUSLIM WORLD

We are bombarded almost daily with news of barbaric acts of terrorism. But if all we know about Islam is what we see on the news, we are missing an incredible story:

The greatest turning of Muslims to Christ in history is happening NOW.

Everywhere Islam exists people are being drawn to Jesus Christ.

This is happening in direct correlation to increased movements of prayer.

God is MOVING and He’s inviting YOU to join Him.

Now is the time to PRAY because Jesus loves and died to save every one of the 1.8 billion Muslims in the world today. Each week will focus on a different region, loving and lifting up representative nations in prayer.

Our prayers do have an impact on the things of eternity and the souls of men and women to find truth in him who is the Living Word. Please join me through this Night Watch to lift your prayers up with mine. That we cry out for the salvation of Muslim souls in darkness and find the light of Jesus. see call information and details below

We will use the Prayercast guide and prayer points for our nightly prayer watch. I am recommending that all who wish to participate on the call to sign up for the Prayercast Ramadan Challenge here. You will receive daily reminders each day through Ramadan. We will convene that evening and pray through the prayer points. We will also continue to intercede for the persecuted church.  As many in the persecuted church are experiencing great hardships in Islamic nation. Many of them are those who’ve converted from Islam to Christ.

As ever, I remain your brother and prayer partner in our Lord Jesus. Meet you on the call!

Brother Blaine

If you are unable to participate on the call, or cannot join us on a particular evening, you can still use the prayer points and pray in your personal prayer closet. The only thing I would urge you is, please do it.  Whether you pray privately, in a group, or on our call, please pray for a great harvest of souls during this time of Ramadan.

Blaine Scogin serves as Prayer Director for Persecution Watch and Voice of the Persecuted.

Persecution Watch is a national prayer conference call to pray specifically for the persecuted Church. For the past 8 years, Blaine has faithfully led this national network of believers praying for the persecuted Church and the global harvest. The group normally meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 9pm EST. However, dedicated in their prayers for our persecuted brothers and sisters and the lost, there have been times when these prayer warriors have met every night for a month or more—lifting them up as the Lord leads. The call often host callers from nations other than the United States. Who will speak for me?

Martin Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for this quotation:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me

I would like to add,

Then they came to persecute our brothers and sisters in Christ— yet if I don’t speak out, when they come to persecute me— who will stand on my behalf?

In the current world situation we, as the body of Christ, would do well to heed that warning.

Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated, as though you yourselves were suffering bodily. Hebrews 13:3

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Proverbs 31:8 NIV

Ministries invite believers to unite on 24 hour prayer conference call for Andrew Brunson

Pastor Andrew Brunson imprisoned in Turkey

(Voice of the Persecuted) 8 Christian ministries have joined together to initiate and invite Christians to join on a 24 hour prayer conference call for an American pastor imprisoned for his faith in Turkey. “We feel an urgency to cover and lift Andrew in prayer before court proceedings continue in his trial next Monday, May 7th”, the ministry leaders said. The call will begin Saturday, May 5 at 9pm and will continue uninterrupted through Sunday, May 6 at 9pm (Call access information and details below). International callers are also encouraged to join.

Andrew Brunson, who pastored a church in Izmir, Turkey, was arrested shortly after the failed coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2016. Brunson has been detained for 18 months. On Friday (Apr. 27), U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for Pastor Brunson’s release while speaking with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusogluon. However, previous attempts made by American officials have been unsuccessful in securing his release. What should our response be about the persecution this pastor, our brother in Christ, is suffering?

In Hebrews 13:3 we’re asked, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” In this verse, those being described as in prison and being mistreated are Christians experiencing persecution for their faith. The verse also highlights the oneness we should feel as believers in the Body of Christ.

As the next court date draws near, let us not forget the importance of the call in Hebrews 13:3. Brothers and sisters, continue to remember our brother, Andrew Brunson, in our prayers. His family and also the thousands of brothers and sisters imprisoned for their faith throughout the world.

When one hears about the persecuted they may ask, “What can I do? I am only one person.” It’s simple, that person can pray. James reminds us that the prayer of a righteous person is very powerful and effective. (James 5:16).

Jesus says that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed we can move mountains. For nothing will be impossible for us (Matthew 17:20).

Imagine one person who is righteous and has faith as small as a mustard seed. What can that person accomplish in their prayers? Then imagine hundreds, if not thousands, of intercessors with that same mustard seed faith. What can they accomplish in Christ through their prayers?

Please join us, next weekend, as we come together believing and praying for the release of our brother Andrew. Come believing and praying for the global persecuted church while praying God will act on their behalf.

Just as a father hears and answers the cries of his child. Let us trust that God will do great things through our prayers, as he has many times in the past and still doing today.

“If only you would tear the heavens open and come down, so that mountains would quake at your presence—just as fire kindles brushwood, and fire boils water—to make your name known to your enemies, so that nations will tremble at your presence! When you did awesome works that we did not expect, you who came down, and the mountains quaked at your presence. From ancient times no one has heard, no one has listened to, no eye has seen any God except you who acts on behalf of the one who waits for him.”  Isaiah 64:1-4 (CSB) (KJV version) BELIEVE!

Global ministries initiate 24hr Prayer Conference Call for Andrew Brunson

(Voice of the Persecuted) American Pastor Andrew Brunson critically needs our prayers. Brunson has lived in Turkey for over 23 years and served as the pastor of Izmir Resurrection Church. He loves the Turkish people and along with his wife, raised 3 children in the country. But he’s been wrongfully accused and facing a 35 yr. prison term if he’s found guilty. 35 years would be a life sentence for the 50 yr. old pastor.

After what has been described as a historically long day of trial of nearly 13 hours, on April 16th, Pastor Brunson clearly answered questions and gave 6 hours of testimony in his defense. It was reported at one point during the trial he broke down in tears. His wife says it was a crushing blow for Andrew when he learned that he would be taken back to the harsh prison where he had lost 50 lbs. They had hoped Andrew would be released to go home under house arrest. His trial is scheduled to continue on May 7, 2018.

A prayer request was sent yesterday by his wife,

“PLEASE PRAY THAT HE BE MOVED BACK [to less harsh prison] UNTIL THE NEXT HEARING, AND PRAY FOR MUCH NEEDED GRACE. I SAW HIM TODAY AND HE IS NOT DOING WELL AT ALL. THIS IS A PRESSING NEED!”

Praise God, that prayer has been answer! Early this morning, we received news that Andrew has been moved to the Buca prison.

Brothers and Sisters,

The Apostle Peter, like Andrew Brunson, was kept in prison as the early church was fervently praying to God for him….Acts 12:5

Peter’s imprisonment by King Herod seemed like a pretty impossible situation for the first century church.  After the martyrdom of James, Herod arrested Peter and had him bound with chains. He also ordered 4 squads of 4 soldiers each to guard Peter’s cell. Sixteen soldiers to watch one unarmed man.

The early church had no political leverage with the Roman or Jewish government. There were no advocacy groups that they could appeal to for Peter’s release. It was pactically a given fact that Peter would surely be executed just as James was.

But the early church had one powerful weapon at its disposal. A weapon that they consistently used to see miracles and signs and wonders go forth. A weapon that won much of the Western Mediterranean to the Lord Jesus Christ in the first century. That weapon was prayer.

The first century Christians realized the imprisonment of Peter was a spiritual battle. As such, they employed spiritual weapons that were powerful against Satan.  The enemy who is spiritual can only be defeated by spiritual weapons.

Paul speaks of the weapons that are at our disposal in 1 Corinthians 10:3-4,

For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are divinely powerful through God for the destruction of strongholds.

The first century Church realized they were in a spiritual war. Consequently, they employed their most powerful weapon to secure the release of Peter. As you read the story, you will see how Peter was released through an angel. When Peter was knocking at the door the praying saints could not believe that he had been released from prison.  Though they were no doubt praying for it.

Today we are in that same spiritual battle regarding our brother Andrew Brunson.  Advocates are saying that it would take an intervention of God to release Andrew Brunson. It seems likely that the Turkish Court will put this brother in prison and throw away the key. But we believe our God is still in the miracle-working business. We do believe that God hear our prayers. James writing in his letter says,

The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful and can accomplish much….James 5:16

The outcome of our brother’s trial is not in the hands of the Turkish government. The outcome is in the hands of God.

We, along with other global ministries have initiated an 24-hour Prayer Conference Call at this critical time for Pastor Brunson. We invite you to join with us the weekend of May 5th – May 6th to cry out the victory of Jesus Christ for Andrew Brunson, for God to be glorified and His will to be done in this trial and the life of Pastor Brunson. Please consider joining us as we pray for his forthcoming release. Call details below

We believe prayer works. Stay on the call 5 minutes, 5 hours, or as long as you feel led. Your prayers make a huge difference in the lives of our  brother, Andrew and the persecuted around the world.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24

When is it good to see red? Today, Wednesday, November 22

It is good to see red when the red is a sign of #RedWednesday. This is an effort taking place tomorrow, to call attention to those who are persecuted for their faith around the world, using red. Red is the color traditionally associated with Christian martyrs, but this effort is for all victims of persecution and of anti-Semitism globally.

Many thanks to the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative (21CWI) for introducing this campaign into the United States. #RedWednesday began in the United Kingdom, as a creation of Aid to the Church in Need(ACN-UK). ACN-UK envisioned a day on which the color red would be “floodlit on buildings, churches and other places of worship, social media and various other delivery paths to create awareness about the rising problem of persecution.” And they have been quite successful! The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and even the London Eye — the giant Ferris Wheel — show their solidarity with the persecuted, lighting up with a fiery red glow, on November 22, #RedWednesday.

21CWI envisions a similar response of compassion and solidarity in the United States. They have been encouraging those who want to show solidarity to wear red on November 22, post photos of themselves wearing red on social media (using, of course, the hashtag #RedWednesday), and to use red spotlights or floodlights for the day. 21CWI’s Director of Policy Relations has convictingly added, “The persecuted do not just need your compassion – they need your citizenship. They need you to get other citizens to stand for faith and freedom. #RedWednesday is the first step.”

There are many other suggestions for how to stand in solidarity with the persecuted on the 21CWI website, and in a special dropbox they have created for the occasion. But here is a sample of memes you can use on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to honor the persecuted on #RedWednesday, courtesy of 21CWI:

Today is #RedWednesday! “Wear red, light red” to stand for #ReligiousFreedom for all!

Everyone needs #ReligiousFreedom! #RedWednesday

Around the world 79% of people live in countries with high levels of persecution. #RedWednesday

No one should be denied basic needs because of what they believe! #RedWednesday

I stand with the #persecuted because everyone has a right to #ReligiousFreedom #RedWednesday

Persecution is: denial of services, tearing down houses of worship, mob violence. No more! #RedWednesday

I’m wearing Red to stand with #persecuted people everywhere. #ReligiousFreedom #RedWednesday

You are probably thinking, “this is awfully last minute, Faith, after all, tomorrow is Wednesday, November 22!”

And you’re right! Mea culpa. When you are the one person focusing on international Christian persecution, without an assistant, some things get pushed to the last minute. I know you are preoccupied with family and friends and food. . .but. . .you know the whole Matthew 25 deal. There’s Jesus checking out the sheep and the goats and telling you, His lamb: “I was being persecuted, and you took the time to wear red, share the message of the persecuted, and show Me that you care.”

So lay aside your scheduled sartorial splendor for the day before Thanksgiving and find red garments to wear. Take a photo, tweet a meme, post on Facebook, or do more of the actions suggested by the 21CWI. You will be standing in solidarity with the persecuted. And you will be encouraging them. We will find a way to share your photos with all of our contacts the countries where persecution is taking place so they can let your persecuted brothers and sisters know you not only “see red” because of the injustice, prejudice, cruelty, and pain with which they are afflicted by their persecutors, but that you wore red to show them that you stand with them.
