When is it good to see red? Today, Wednesday, November 22

It is good to see red when the red is a sign of #RedWednesday. This is an effort taking place tomorrow, to call attention to those who are persecuted for their faith around the world, using red. Red is the color traditionally associated with Christian martyrs, but this effort is for all victims of persecution and of anti-Semitism globally.

Many thanks to the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative (21CWI) for introducing this campaign into the United States. #RedWednesday began in the United Kingdom, as a creation of Aid to the Church in Need(ACN-UK). ACN-UK envisioned a day on which the color red would be “floodlit on buildings, churches and other places of worship, social media and various other delivery paths to create awareness about the rising problem of persecution.” And they have been quite successful! The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and even the London Eye — the giant Ferris Wheel — show their solidarity with the persecuted, lighting up with a fiery red glow, on November 22, #RedWednesday.

21CWI envisions a similar response of compassion and solidarity in the United States. They have been encouraging those who want to show solidarity to wear red on November 22, post photos of themselves wearing red on social media (using, of course, the hashtag #RedWednesday), and to use red spotlights or floodlights for the day. 21CWI’s Director of Policy Relations has convictingly added, “The persecuted do not just need your compassion – they need your citizenship. They need you to get other citizens to stand for faith and freedom. #RedWednesday is the first step.”

There are many other suggestions for how to stand in solidarity with the persecuted on the 21CWI website, and in a special dropbox they have created for the occasion. But here is a sample of memes you can use on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to honor the persecuted on #RedWednesday, courtesy of 21CWI:

Today is #RedWednesday! “Wear red, light red” to stand for #ReligiousFreedom for all!

Everyone needs #ReligiousFreedom! #RedWednesday

Around the world 79% of people live in countries with high levels of persecution. #RedWednesday

No one should be denied basic needs because of what they believe! #RedWednesday

I stand with the #persecuted because everyone has a right to #ReligiousFreedom #RedWednesday

Persecution is: denial of services, tearing down houses of worship, mob violence. No more! #RedWednesday

I’m wearing Red to stand with #persecuted people everywhere. #ReligiousFreedom #RedWednesday

You are probably thinking, “this is awfully last minute, Faith, after all, tomorrow is Wednesday, November 22!”

And you’re right! Mea culpa. When you are the one person focusing on international Christian persecution, without an assistant, some things get pushed to the last minute. I know you are preoccupied with family and friends and food. . .but. . .you know the whole Matthew 25 deal. There’s Jesus checking out the sheep and the goats and telling you, His lamb: “I was being persecuted, and you took the time to wear red, share the message of the persecuted, and show Me that you care.”

So lay aside your scheduled sartorial splendor for the day before Thanksgiving and find red garments to wear. Take a photo, tweet a meme, post on Facebook, or do more of the actions suggested by the 21CWI. You will be standing in solidarity with the persecuted. And you will be encouraging them. We will find a way to share your photos with all of our contacts the countries where persecution is taking place so they can let your persecuted brothers and sisters know you not only “see red” because of the injustice, prejudice, cruelty, and pain with which they are afflicted by their persecutors, but that you wore red to show them that you stand with them.

The weekly Persecution Watch Prayer Call meets at 9pm EST every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For more info contact: pwprayercall@gmail.com

Special Event Begins at 9am! IDOP Prayer Conference Call for the Persecuted Church

Come pray with us on the call, today!  Lifting up our persecuted brothers and sisters and interceding on their behalf.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

The Apostle John wrote about a war that Satan is declaring on the Saints.

So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 12:17

Paul describes this as a spiritual war and he exhorts the believers to stand strong in the Lord.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13

Spiritual Warfare

John and Paul understood the spiritual war to be manifested in persecution as they suffered for their faith in Jesus. John was exiled and imprisoned on the island of Patmos. Paul was imprisoned and beheaded.

Two thousand years later the war continues. Satan is still waging war against the faithful, which is clearly evident, through increasing persecution of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. They, who are in the shadow of the cross, who dare to stand for Him.

This raging storm, our persecuted family faces, is that spiritual war. One that cannot be fought with fleshly means. For this is a war against demonic forces that can only be defeated by spiritual means. It’s a battle to the end that must be waged spiritually with the word of God on our knees in prayer. I recall that Brother Andrew once said that prayer is the battle.

Our brother, Paul wrote in Ephesians exhorting believers to pray for one another.

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

What can we do?

This coming November, individually and corporately, we will have the opportunity to join with millions of other believers around the world to lift up our persecuted family in prayer. The first two Sundays in November (11/5 and 11/12) have been designated as the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP 2017). Persecution Watch and Voice of the Persecuted, in collaboration with International Orality Network and other global ministries(TBA), will unite to host two 12-hour IDOP prayer conference calls for our persecuted family. This is your opportunity to come and pray and be the voice of the persecuted Church through those prayers. Please mark your calendar to stand in the gap and join the calls to lift-up our brothers and sisters suffering for Christ.

We believe prayer works. Stay on the call 5 minutes, 5 hours, or as long as you feel led. Your prayers make a huge difference in the lives of our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world.

Meet you on the call!

12-hour Prayer Event for the Persecuted Church – Saturday July 29

JOIN THE CALL!

Why Pray for the Persecuted Church?
Because we love Jesus and we love our persecuted brothers and sisters.  A simple enough answer to a straightforward question.  1 Corinthians 16:13-14 exhorts us to,
••• Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men. Be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.•••
Those followers of Jesus in nations hostile to the gospel are willing to lay down their lives for Him.  They do so, but not out of obligatory command. These believers are willing to lay all down for Him because they love Him.  They love Him because He loved them first ( 1 John 4:19).
Our persecuted brothers and sisters have had an experience with Jesus.  They have come to realize that Jesus is worth suffering for. They see the incredible love that Jesus showed by His sacrifice for them.  For Jesus says in John 15:13,

••• Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.•••
Because of what Jesus has done in the lives of our persecuted family in Christ, they are willing to suffer much for Jesus. They are willing to suffer persecution and even martyrdom because He is worthy. Our brother, the Apostle Paul writes to the Philippian believers,
••• But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.••• Phil. 3:7-11

Paul had apprehended such an incredible revelation of Jesus that he was willing to suffer all for His sake. The early believers counted it a privilege to suffer for the Lord Jesus Christ in view of what He had done for them.  For these early believers were able to grasp our Savior’s love so amazing and passionate that He suffered for them on the cross. Consequently they were willing to take up their cross out of a love for Him and His sake.
Today, the story is still the same for the persecuted church.  Many of our persecuted family suffer torture and martyrdom because they consider Jesus to be worthy. They’re only plea of us who enjoy political freedom is that we pray for them.
Will you please join us in a 12-hour prayer conference call on Saturday July 29th as we pray out our hearts of love for our persecuted family? These precious saints are willing to lay all down for Jesus because they consider Him worthy. They do this out of a heart of love. They do this out of His love for them.
If we have apprehended the love of Christ in our lives. If we say we love Him. Then please come join us in your heart of love and lift up our persecuted brothers and sisters, on the call. Details are below.

Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before Us -Prayer Call Reminder: Sat. April 29

Chapter 11 in the book of Hebrews examines the enduring faith of Biblical heroes such as Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses and others. It also describes how their faith gained God’s favor.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
The writer of Hebrews concludes his great ‘roll call of faith’ chapter by reminding us of those saints who have undergone persecution. He does this to remind his readers to stay faithful to Jesus and to continue to run that race with their eyes fixed on him. By implication in His prophetic word, he is encouraging us to do the same. Also, by implication, for us to remember the persecuted saints, today.
…and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; and others experienced mockings and scourges, yes., also chains and imprisonment.  They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death. with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill treated men of whom the world was not worthy, wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground.
And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us so that apart from us, they would not be made perfect.
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance, the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider him who has endured such hostility by sinners against himself so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. — Hebrews 11:35 – 12-3

The writer of Hebrews concludes his great roll call of faith chapter by reminding us of those saints who have undergone persecution. He does this to remind his readers to stay faithful to Jesus and to continue to run that race with their eyes fixed on him.  By implication in His prophetic word, he is encouraging us to do the same. And also, by implication for us to remember the persecuted saints, today.

It has been said that it was never considered a church service  in the first century unless the martyrs were remembered. The word martyr in the Greek means witness. The writer of Hebrews is exhorting us to remember those witnesses who have gone before us.
I invite you to come join our 12 hour call this coming Saturday April 29th and to lift up our persecuted brothers and sisters in prayer.  Details for the call are below. Meet you on the call.

Prayer Conference Call Event: Abiding in Prayer for the Persecuted

Open 12-hour Prayer Conference Call for the Persecuted. April 29, 2017

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Saturday April 29, 2017

The New Testament is a book written by the persecuted for the persecuted.  Indeed, the best way to understand the New Testament is against the backdrop of persecution.  Many of the New Testament letters are written to believers who were in the context of persecution.  They were being persecuted because because they were followers of Jesus.
Hebrews 13:3
Remember the prisoners as though in prison with them, and those who are ill treated, since you yourselves also are in the body….

The command out of Hebrews to remember the prisoners as though in prison with them conveys the idea to pray for them.
The exhortation of Paul to the Colossians to remember his imprisonment is conveying the same idea for them to pray for him.
Colossians 4:18
…Remember my imprisonment…
Over 2000 years ago, persecuted believers asked that they be remembered in prayer. Today the persecuted believers ask the same, “PRAY FOR US!”.

Our brother Paul reminded his readers 2000 years ago to weep with those who weep. He also reminded them that if one member of the body suffers they all suffered. This is equally true today. We have brothers and sisters who are weeping and suffering in the shadow of the cross. We ourselves, by the Spirit, are to weep and suffer with them because we are united with them by the Spirit and feel their pain and suffering. Our hearts should be moved by the Spirit to pray for those who are in prison and who are suffering. If hearing news of Christians coming under attack crushes you, it should not be a surprise. We are all one in the Body of Christ.
Brothers and sisters please join with us on Saturday April 29th as we lift up our brothers and sisters in a 12-hour prayer conference call for the persecuted church.  Call details are below.
