China-Wuhan Pastor: Pray with Us

Wuhan, Parrot Island bridge (CC0 1.0) pxfuel

(China Source) The following is a letter from the pastor of a church in Wuhan written to brothers and sisters in Christ. It was specially written for distribution.

Brothers and sisters, peace be upon you:

During these past days the Wuhan pneumonia [virus] has been at the center of my thoughts and life. [I am] always watching the latest news, and always thinking about how our family and the church should face this.

As for family, I have gathered masks and foodstuffs and have ventured out of doors as little as possible. When venturing out in public I have worn a mask, but as for the rest, I have placed it in the Lord’s hands.

As for the church, the safety of the congregation, a faithful witness, the possibility that members could contract the illness, have all become a great area of struggle. It is readily apparent that we are facing a test of our faith.

The situation is so critical, yet [we are] trusting in the Lord’s promises, that his thoughts toward us are of peace, and not evil (Jeremiah. 29:11), and that he allows for a time of testing, not to destroy us, but to establish us. Therefore, Christians are not only to suffer with the people of this city, but we have a responsibility to pray for those in this city who are fearful, and to bring to them the peace of Christ.

First, we are to seek the peace of Christ to reign in their hearts (Hebrews 3:15). Christ has already given us his peace, but his peace is not to remove us from disaster and death, but rather to have peace in the midst of disaster and death, because Christ has already overcome these things (John 14:27, 16:33). Otherwise we have not believed in the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15), and, with the world, would be terrified of pestilence, and lose hope in the face of death.

Why do only Christians have this peace? Because of sin, humans deserve the trials and tribulations that come upon them, Jehovah says: the wicked have no peace (Isaiah 48:22). We were all sinners, but Christ, because of faith, took our penalty and gave us his peace. Therefore Paul says, who can bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. (Romans 8:33). Christians may with the world face the same tribulations, but such tribulations are no longer punishment, but a new opportunity to grow nearer to the Almighty, to purify our souls, and an opportunity to proclaim the gospel.

In other words, when disaster strikes us, it is but a form of God’s love. And, as Paul firmly believed, “who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger or sword? . . .  in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Roman. 8:35-39).

Spoken for today, Wuhan’s pestilence cannot separate us from the love of Christ; this love is in our Lord Jesus Christ. These words are so comforting for us, we have already become one body with Christ. We have a part in his sufferings, and we have a part in his glory, all of Christ’s is ours, and our all is Christ’s. Therefore, Christ is with us as we face the pestilence in this city; the pestilence cannot harm us. If we die in the pestilence, it is an opportunity to witness to Christ, and even more to enter into his glory.

Thus, my brothers and sisters, I encourage you to be strong in Christ’s love. If we more deeply experience death in this pestilence, understanding the gospel, we may more deeply experience Christ’s love, and grow ever nearer to God. Our Lord Jesus through faith experienced an incomparable suffering of death, yet God raised him from the dead, and sat him at his right hand.  (Acts 2:32-36)

If in reading these truths you still have no peace, I encourage you to diligently read the above cited scripture and call on the Lord to give you insight until the peace of Christ reigns in your heart. You must know, that this is not just an observable disaster, but even more it is a spiritual struggle. You should first wage a battle for your heart, and secondarily battle for the soul of this city.

We earnestly hope that you would know that not a sparrow falls without the will of the Father (Matthew 10:29). With so many souls facing pestilence, can it be outside God’s will? All that we are experiencing, is it not like Abraham facing Sodom, and Jonah facing Nineveh?

If God, because of a righteous man withheld judgment on Sodom, or because of 120,000 who didn’t know their left hand from their right, withheld destruction, what of the city of Wuhan in which we live?  We are clearly the righteous in this city, far more than a single righteous person there are thousands and thousands of us. Yet, may we like Lot be grieved over all those in this city (1 Peter 2:7), and like Abraham who earnestly prayed for Sodom (Genesis 18:23-33). You see, Jonah with difficulty proclaimed the gospel to Nineveh, and Nineveh repented and was saved. We are this city’s Abraham and Jonah. We must pray for God’s mercy upon this city, and bring peace upon this city through our prayers and testimony.

I believe this is the command of God calling those of us living in Wuhan. We are to seek peace for this city, seek peace for those who are afflicted with this illness, seek peace for the medical personnel struggling on the front lines, seek peace for every government official at every level, seek peace for all the people of Wuhan! And we can through online networks guide and comfort our friends and loved ones with the gospel, reminding them that our lives are not in our own hands, and to entrust their lives to God who is faithful and true.

The past few days I have received many inquiries from foreign pastors. They and the whole church are concerned for this city, even more for us; and confronting this epidemic, seek to serve the city with us.

Thus, I especially ask them to turn their eyes upon Jesus. And do not be concerned with my welfare, nor be agitated or fearful, but pray in the name of Jesus. Good hearted people are through their actions serving this city, especially the medical personnel who are risking their own lives. If they can take on such worldly responsibilities, how can we not more readily take on spiritual responsibilities!

If you do not feel a responsibility to pray, ask the Lord for a loving soul, an earnestly prayerful heart; if you are not crying, ask the Lord for tears. Because we surely know that only through the hope of the Lord’s mercy will this city be saved.

Rejoice, He is risen and Love has won!

Through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus, God has redeemed us and calls us his children. May God bless us with great joy. Through Christ, we have been saved by grace, our chains have been broken and we now have freedom. Father, lead us and help us to resist temptation, to be united with Christ and life eternal in Your presence. O God bless us, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen and Amen. Have a very blessed Easter Sunday remembering all the Lord has done and accomplished. Rejoice, the victory is won, LOVE wins!

Your love has deeply encouraged the persecuted

(Voice of the Persecuted) We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you for those of you who came on the IDOP call, this past Sunday. The Holy Spirit was with us in a very special and deep way.  The call flowed smoothly. God kept us free of technical glitches and satanic interference.
.
I believe our prayers brought down the kingdom of God and pushed back the forces of darkness. Our prayers greatly encouraged our persecuted brothers and sisters and did, indeed, call out God’s redemptive heart for the global harvest of souls.
.
We heard encouraging reports about what God is doing in the front lines among the persecuted.  As a result,  much encouraging and fervent prayer went up on behalf of the persecuted and those who work on the harvest.
.
This morning, in my time with the Lord, I heard him say that our prayers were sealed. I believe this is God’s way of saying that our prayers were heard and answered.
 .
Dear Brothers and Sisters, I thank each of you, from my heart, for hearing the Spirit’s prompting to join and pray with us as one in the Body of Christ. Our persecuted brothers and sisters thank you for blessing them through your prayers.
.
Much blessings be upon each and everyone of you.
 .
In Christ,
Blaine and the VOP team
.

Persecution Watch is a national prayer conference call to pray specifically for the persecuted Church. For the past 8 years, Blaine has faithfully led this national network of believers praying for the persecuted Church and the global harvest. The group normally meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 9pm EST. However, dedicated in their prayers for our persecuted brothers and sisters, there have been times when these prayer warriors have met every night for a month or more—lifting the persecuted up as the Lord leads. Often, they host callers from nations other than the United States.

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted (IDOP 2017) Conference Call Event

IDOP 2017 Prayer Conference Call Event

Come pray with us! International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted IDOP 2017 Conference Call Events.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

The Apostle John wrote about a war that Satan is declaring on the Saints.

So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 12:17

Paul describes this as a spiritual war and he exhorts the believers to stand strong in the Lord.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13

Spiritual Warfare

John and Paul understood the spiritual war to be manifested in persecution as they suffered for their faith in Jesus. John was exiled and imprisoned on the island of Patmos. Paul was imprisoned and beheaded.

Two thousand years later the war continues. Satan is still waging war against the faithful, which is clearly evident, through increasing persecution of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. They, who are in the shadow of the cross, who dare to stand for Him.

This raging storm, our persecuted family faces, is that spiritual war. One that cannot be fought with fleshly means. For this is a war against demonic forces that can only be defeated by spiritual means. It’s a battle to the end that must be waged spiritually with the word of God on our knees in prayer. I recall that Brother Andrew once said that prayer is the battle.

Our brother, Paul wrote in Ephesians exhorting believers to pray for one another.

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

What can we do?

This coming November, individually and corporately, we will have the opportunity to join with millions of other believers around the world to lift up our persecuted family in prayer. The first two Sundays in November (11/5 and 11/12) have been designated as the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP 2017). Persecution Watch and Voice of the Persecuted, in collaboration with International Orality Network and other global ministries(TBA), will unite to host two 12-hour IDOP prayer conference calls for our persecuted family. This is your opportunity to come and pray and be the voice of the persecuted Church through those prayers. Please mark your calendar to stand in the gap and join the calls to lift-up our brothers and sisters suffering for Christ.

We believe prayer works. Stay on the call 5 minutes, 5 hours, or as long as you feel led. Your prayers make a huge difference in the lives of our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world.

Meet you on the call!

EVENT REMINDER: JOIN US on the IDOP Prayer Conference Call Tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 13)

idop2016-prayer-hands-logo

(Voice of the Persecuted) Do you know in some parts of the world, it’s dangerous to be a Christian? Statistics say 100 million Christians face persecution daily. For them, at best, life is difficult. At worst, it’s a nightmare. Because in many countries, Christians are imprisoned—tortured—harassed—beaten—and even killed for their faith. So what can you do?

SPEAK UP against persecution—DEFEND those discriminated—HELP those in need—PRAY for those suffering.

PARTICIPATE: The IDOP event is a global day of intercession for Christians facing persecution worldwide. Its focus is to encourage the Body of Christ to intercede in prayer on behalf of our suffering brothers and sisters persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the IDOP. Since it’s inception, the IDOP has grown substantially and today is observed in more than 100 countries across the world.

Godfrey Yogarajah, Executive Director of World Evangelical Alliance, Religious Liberty Commission says it’s also been a source of solidarity and encouragement to persecuted Christians by reminding them that they are part of a larger, global family of believers.

Colossians 4:18

Remember my imprisonment…
Brothers and sisters, the cry of our persecuted family is always that we remember their imprisonment of their suffering.  The writer in Hebrews 13:3 tells us, “Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.”
One way that we can remember of brothers and sisters is through prayer. The request of the suffering church in restricted nations is, please pray for us…pray with us.
 .
This coming November, individually and corporately, we will have an opportunity to join with millions of other believers around the world to lift up our persecuted family in prayer.  The first two Sundays in November (11/6 and 11/13) have been designated the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). We will host two 12-hour IDOP prayer conference calls. We invite you to join us as we unite in prayer for the persecuted. Lord willing we will hear reports from the front lines of those who work with the persecuted and are persecuted.

Mark your calendars!

Don’t miss this opportunity. Our prayers can accomplish much for our persecuted family.  We are reminded in James 5:16, the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Let us accomplish much for the persecuted in fervent, heartfelt prayer during the 2016 IDOP in November.

TRAVEL THE WORLD THROUGH PRAYER

Prayer Thoughts: A monthly memo to encourage us in our prayer life

(ANS – March 15, 2016) — “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” Ps 2:8 NIV.

Here’s the thing: There are no limits to where prayer can take us. We can go anywhere in the world. There are no borders to cross, no visas to get, no crowded airports and no jetlag. No place is too remote or off limits. We can go anywhere the Spirit of God leads us.

If we are concerned [about] our nation, prayer can take us to the heart of the capitol where we can call on God for our leaders. It can take us into the highest courts in our land where we can pray that our judges would fear God, knowing that the fear of the Lord is just the beginning of wisdom.

Prayer can take us deep into the Amazon to intercede for tribes that are off-limits to missionaries. In a flash, we can be in Tibet praying for the gospel to penetrate the spiritual darkness. In prayer, we can visit animistic villages in Africa and Hindu shrines in India and pray for the multitudes who worship idols.

Prayer can take us to the prison camps of North Korea to ask for [the release of] the many believers who have been sentenced to years of hard labor for their faith. We can visit trouble spots such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and South Sudan to pray for peace. So many peoples. So many places. So many prayer needs.

God has made the prayers of His people essential for  on earth. Still, I suspect most of us don’t pray very much for the world. Not because we are too uncaring or carnal. Most likely our needs and the needs of those close to us so fill our minds that we have little room left to take on the needs of the world.

I suspect also that most of us would pray for the world more if we were better informed and reminded. There are things to help. Mission publications, travel mags, newspapers, Internet and TV give plenty of information. We can pray for whatever catches our attention. There are also many good websites on praying for the world.

Final thought: Best of all prayer can take us to a place not even on the map – the Holy of holies. We can enter the Throne Room of God through the blood of Jesus, bowing down in worship and pouring out our petitions for the nations. After all, God wants all peoples to know Him and commune with Him in this most holy place too.
