SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Join us on the conference call tonight and hear from a Bible Smuggler who will share what the Lord is doing to grow His Church!

(Voice of the Persecuted) Dear Prayer Warriors, years ago I read a book by Brother Andrew titled, God’s Smuggler. I was young in my walk with the Lord and I didn’t realize that God was still performing miracles. I had thought miracles only happened during Biblical times.

Andrew van der Bijl (known in English-speaking countries as Brother Andrew) is a Christian missionary born on 11 May 1928 in Sint Pancras, the Netherlands. He’s noted for his exploits in smuggling bibles into communist countries at the height of the Cold War and earned the nickname “God’s smuggler”.

In 1955, Andrew went to a Communist youth congress in Poland, at that time a part of the Soviet bloc. But he wasn’t a communist: he was a Christian. His suitcase contained his Bible, a change of clothes and hundreds of tracts entitled The Way of Salvation, which he intended to give away.

If caught, Andrew knew that he would be sent to prison and that only God could help him. This brave missionary is known for having prayed the following prayer when he was stopped to have his car inspected at the border of a communist country.

“Lord, in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to your children. When you were on earth, You made blind eyes see. Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind. Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see.”

I had never heard any one pray with such assurance and devotion. God did answer his prayer and made it possible for Andrew to give away the tracts without being caught! I was encouraged by his amazing story, I wanted to know more about this man and how he was able to communicate with the Lord.

One day, through a dear missionary friend of mine, I was able to meet this extraordinary brother. I was so elated when I came face to face with him that I was speechless and unable to ask any questions. He smiled and he began to speak to me with a kind voice that made me feel at ease. I came to know about his deep relationship with the Lord and his faith in Him. Andrew was led by God to go where people were hungry to hear God’s Truth. He obeyed the Lord’s calling on his life which took him to dangerous places. He realized that prayer was crucial to communicate with God, to be led by Him and know what to do. He was confident that God was listening and would answer him. I was so excited because I too desired to talk to God through Jesus. His testimony touched me deeply. He also loved persecuted Christians and cared that they needed help.

I had met an ordinary man that was able to do extraordinary things in the Lord through prayer. Andrew’s love for the Lord was so contagious that I wanted to spend more time with him. I was sad that day when we parted.

I became involved with my missionary friend who was also smuggling bibles to persecuted Christians. It was then that I became aware of their deep persecutions and trials. She showed me the importance of Hebrews 13:3,

“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”

As I heard the heart wrenching testimony of Christians being persecuted for the sake of His glory, their love for the Lord and for the harvest, I was given a new heart and a desire to pray for them. At the time, I didn’t fully comprehend God’s will and Kingdom purposes for me.

Years later, Lois Kanalos, the Founder of Voice of the Persecuted, invited me to join a special prayer conference call event hosted by Blaine Scogin, Founder of Persecution Watch. The mission of Persecution Watch is to specifically pray for the persecuted and the global harvest. I was thrilled to join on the call to serve God in praying for suffering believers. I had grown in the Lord and it was then that I recognized what God had been training me for all along. I continued to join the weekly prayer calls and prayed united with the group of intercessors for the persecuted. The presence of the Holy Spirit was strong and powerful. Later, Blaine and Lois asked if I would like to take the role as a prayer leader and moderate one of the weekly prayer conference calls. I could not believe it. My dear sister, Merlaine, who God had brought into my life years ago, also accepted to serve with me as co-moderator on the calls. Our Father had orchestrated all these things before I even understood what was going on!

My love for persecuted Christians has deepened and my heart cries also for the lost ones who do not yet know Jesus. But I’ve learned what is impossible for men is possible for God. It’s a privilege for me to pray for my brothers and sisters and for the harvest. It is a honor to be on the call in unity with other brothers and sisters as we intercede for them and praise the Lord. What a joy it is to be able to stand together, to come to know and love one another, as the Lord intended.

Tonight, my missionary friend, ‘Dr. Pat’ will be joining the call to share with us about what the Lord is doing to get Bibles into the hands of those in restricted nations.

I welcome all of you who love Jesus, have a desire to serve Him and care about persecuted believers, to come on the call as you are led to pray. Join us and experience the amazing love of God who leads us into prayer through the Holy Spirit. Receive the joy and amazing blessings that God has in store for you as you are obedient to His calling.

In Christ love,
Nadia Dybvik and Merlaine Smokes

What is Persecution Watch?
Persecution Watch is a U.S. national prayer conference call ministry that prays specifically for the global Persecuted Church. For over a decade, Blaine Scogin led this national network of believers who faithfully pray for the persecuted and the global harvest for the Kingdom of God. The group meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 9pm Eastern (please check your time zone). Blaine also served as Prayer Director for Voice of the Persecuted and our missions became one. The prayer mission of Persecution Watch is an important part of our own. With the passing of Blaine into glory on December 26, 2019, Voice of the Persecuted is committed to continue the prayer conference call for the persecuted along with our dedicated prayer warrior team.

On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters have been invited on the call to share the trials they’re facing. The team serves to encourage them by washing their feet in Spirit led prayer. Time is often reserved for those on the call to ask questions. We believe this helps to gain a better understanding of the situation that persecuted Christians endure in their specific nations. Q&A also helps us to focus our prayers based on their current needs.

Persecution Watch also hosts callers who want to pray united from other nations. If your heart is perplexed by the sufferings of our persecuted brothers and sisters, you no longer need to pray alone. We welcome all who desire to pray for the persecuted church and consider it a joy to pray together with you. If you’re new to the call and can’t find your voice, listen in and pray silently or on mute. We are grateful and thank the Lord for bringing us all together to pray in agreement for our persecuted family in Christ. We can all be prayer warriors on this call!

NOTE: Persecution Watch has a new email address for the prayer team and those who would like to receive urgent prayer requests, weekly call prayer points and notification of special prayer events and special guest speakers. Since the passing of Brother Blaine Scogin, we thank you for your patience as we have transitioned into this new season.
