A Franciscan priest kidnapped over the weekend by al-Qaeda-linked rebels from a Syrian village near Turkey has been freed.

“Father Hanna Jallouf has been released this morning… he is under house arrest at the convent of Qunyeh,” the Franciscan order said in a statement.

Catholic officials in Syria and Israel confirmed the abduction, according to Reuters news agency.

The Islamic Nusra Front, a rebel group affiliated with al Qaeda, took the priest from the Christian village of Knayeh on Oct. 5.

Twenty other believers, including young boys and girls, were also taken and there’s been no word of them since.

Islamic fighters in Syria are targeting Christians and other religious minorities.

  1. Chris says:

Then I pray for his continued safety and for the 20 other believers that were kidnapped. The things that children are experiencing are beyond the pale.

May I add another desperate prayer request? The Kurdish city of Kobani is falling. The Kurds have been helping Christian and Muslim refugees. They are very brave. But their rifles cannot withstand the rocket launchers and advanced weaponry that we in the USA have supplied ISIS. It appears that all of NATO is willing to sacrifice the Kurds. I hope I am misreading this. But they definitely need urgent prayer and a true miracle from God. And I confess that I would love for God to show Himself to the Kurdish people so they might be saved. Thanks!
