The Air Force Academy (USAFA) removed a Bible verse posted on a cadet’s whiteboard after it determined the posting had offended other cadets, a spokesman for the academy says.
The cadet wrote the passage on the whiteboard posted outside his room. “I have been crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,” the verse from Galatians read.
Mikey Weinstein, director of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, told me 29 cadets and four faculty and staff members contacted his organization to complain about the Christian passage.
“Had it been in his room—not a problem,” Weinstein told me. “It’s not about the belief. It’s about the time, the place and the manner.”
He said the Bible verse on the cadet’s personal whiteboard created a hostile environment at the academy.
“It clearly elevated one religious faith [fundamentalist Christianity] over all others at an already virulently hyperfundamentalist Christian institution,” he said. “It massively poured fundamentalist Christian gasoline on an already raging, out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy at USAFA.”
Who knew that a Bible verse posted on a whiteboard could generate such outrage?
Weinstein said he immediately contacted the Air Force Academy and filed a complaint. Exactly two hours and nine minutes later, the Bible verse had been scrubbed from the cadet’s whiteboard.
A spokesman for the USAFA confirmed that the religious text was cleansed from the board.
“The whiteboards are for both official and personal use, but when a concern was raised we addressed it and the comment was taken down,” Lt. Col. Brus Vidal told me in a written statement.
Weinstein told me the Air Force Academy did a good job in fixing the problem and credited Lt. Col. Denise Cooper.
“She immediately said this is wrong and will use it as a teachable moment,” he said.
The academy said the cadet will not be punished.
“We don’t see misconduct here but the division between your personal room and the hallway is a gray area,” Vidal said.
Weinstein took umbrage with that comment and said the cadet must be punished.
“It’s not a gray area; this is absolute misconduct,” he said. “Not only should the cadet be punished but [also] his/her responsible USAFA cadet and officer chain of command who ignored this blatant and egregious violation of Air Force regulation 1-1 and the United States Constitution.”
The 1-1 regulation Weinstein cited is an extensive document with a section on religious proselytizing and other religious matters.

Unbelievable
When we speak of religious tolerance that means toleration of every religious group or sect except Christians. If Satan is the Prince of the earth, then that is probably the way it should be. He knows Jesus Christ, he believes in Him with fear and trembling. He also knows that no world religion or faith-based exercise on earth has the promise of salvation in Heaven without Christ-Messiah. It means a lot to him to know that such a verse is on a white board. This he fears, This he also puts in the heart of his disci0ples to fear it also,
‘Fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy at USAFA.’
Wow! That describes Islam. Most certainly NOT Christianity! Where is the tyranny???
From reading numerous articles from many sources over the last several years, all branches of the “Amerikan” military are becoming much more hostile toward ‘fundamental CHRISTians’.
Look at the number of briefings that have become public that have labeled Evangelical Christians as #1 on the list of ‘Terrorist Organizations’.
The following are a very small sample of published articles which show the more and more common anti-CHRIST official views of the US Military:
“US Army Labeled Evangelicals as RELIGIOUS EXTREMISTS” (Apr 13)
“Awakening Warrior- How The US MILITARY Views GOD As The Enemy” (Dec 10)
“US MILITARY Now ID’s BIBLE Believers As Threat To National Security” (Dec 10)
“US ARMY Command and General Staff College – Strategic Implications of American MILLENNIALISM” (2008)
I wanted to go to the USAFA in 1965 – but my HS grades weren’t good enough. I went through US Army Flight School and was a Warrant Officer Aviator, served in Vietnam (3 1/2+ yrs combat duty with 2,800+ combat flight hours) and completed 12 1/2 years on active duty.
Only by the Wondrous Grace of GOD – since shortly after 9/11/01 I became a born again fundamental CHRISTian.
I do not make the following recommendation lightly: Which is that a truly converted, ‘born again’ CHRISTian not voluntarily go on active duty, or into the ‘Reserves’ or ‘National Guard’ of any branch of the US Military – unless they are specifically led by THE ONLY WISE GOD to do so – which will be as a missionary to tell the ‘good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ’ to those that do not believe in Him as their personal Saviour!
